SPF, which stands for Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, that is is intended to verify whether an email message is sent by an official server. Employing SPF protection for a given domain will stop the counterfeiting of email addresses generated with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this feature for a domain name creates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) containing the IP of the servers which are permitted to send email messages from mail boxes under the domain. The moment this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Any time some email message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through checks if it comes from an authorized server. In the event it does, it is sent to the destination address, but when it doesn't come from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it's discarded. In this way nobody can mask an email address and make it look as if you're e-mailing spam messages. This approach is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Cloud Hosting

When you host your domains in a cloud hosting account with us and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you are able to activate SPF protection for any of them with a few clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is available in a separate section where you will be able to view which domain names are currently secured. For those that aren't, you can activate the SPF protection service and set up various things during this process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your email addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and to create a rule that messages can be sent only if your domains include our MX records. The last option is the most secure one, and it can be used when we manage the emails for your domain names and you're not using some other e-mail service provider. The newly created records will propagate within 1 day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an email by using your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia website hosting Control Panel, that is included with all our semi-dedicated servers, provides you with an exceptionally intuitive interface to activate the SPF security service for each domain that you host inside your new account. Just a few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia are enough for that and you'll only have to enter the hostname and the IP address of the mail server which will be allowed to send out messages from your emails. If the e-mail messages are handled on our end and not by a different supplier, you'll be able to increase the security level even more and take advantage of an option for all of the outgoing e-mail messages to be sent only if your domain names feature our MX records. This option provides you with more control and it'll eliminate any chance of someone faking your emails with the intention of spamming and / or scamming people. It is not applicable in case just your web site is hosted on our modern cloud hosting platform, while your email addresses are managed by some other service provider. If you aren't sure what features to pick, our technical support team will assist you 24/7.
