There are lots of ways to point a domain address to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. In case you own a domain and you've developed a site using some online service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve as a result is that www.your-domain.com will be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party company. It is essential to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain name may have will stop working, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and working email addresses with another one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often more configuration may be required with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia CP included with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added this type of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks in your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to set up a CNAME record with ease. If you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to redirect a domain to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain name to another company and use some third-party service which they provide, it will not require more than 3 clicks to set up this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you're there, all that you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video within the Control Panel about how to create a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
