An access log is a text file containing an extensive list of all the files accessed by your website visitors. All of the files that were requested in one way or another shall be included, so if you have a PHP script program and a site visitor opens just the home page, for example, you might find a lot of files inside the log. The reason is that there are components on the home page which are embedded - parts of other webpages, pictures, and so on. All of these files shall be listed inside the access log, so you can get a full picture of the way your site functions. The data is in plain text format, so the logs are often described as "raw data" too. An access log shows the name of each and every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, along with the user’s IP address, browser and OS. More information, such as the referrer Internet site, is oftentimes provided too. A log file may be processed by various desktop applications for statistical purposes as an addition to the web statistics created by your hosting server.

Access Log Manager in Cloud Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia CP features a section focused on various logs and the access logs are among them. As you sign in to your cloud hosting account and navigate to this section, you'll find a list of all the domains and subdomains which you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to click on a button that'll be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. In case the option is enabled, you'll see a download link along with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your personal computer and examine it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect right away, so if you no longer need one, you could stop it with just a click from the same section of the CP. You'll still be able to access the already developed content by simply clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll have the option to activate or disable the generation of access logs with only a couple of mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting CP. You shall find this function within the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access once you sign in. All it takes for our system to start creating logs is a single click on the On button you'll see there. The feature can be enabled separately for any site no matter if it uses a domain or a subdomain and you'll find the complete list of all the hosts inside that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with a click and you can then view it manually or use some software on your computer. The log generation may be disabled by simply switching the On option to Off within the Logs section of your CP.
